Lettera aperta alla redazione di Utopia Rossa
Cari amici: per anni ho collaborato con voi, l’associazione Utopia Rossa, perché condivido l’idea di lavorare per l’unità dei movimenti rivoluzionari del mondo in un progetto internazionalista nel quale possano convivere persone di provenienza marxista e libertaria. Tuttavia, le posizioni incredibilmente prosioniste e antipalestinesi che avete assunto negli ultimi tempi mi obbligano a presentarvi le mie dimissioni.
Io non credo che l’azione di Hamas del 7 ottobre 2023 sia stata un pogrom; penso che sia stata un’azione di guerra contro lo Stato sionista, il che è ben diverso. Sono ateo e non sono d’accordo con nessun fondamentalismo, però penso che i palestinesi abbiano il diritto di resistere alla violenza criminale di Israele. Il terrorismo è un’arma odiosa, senza dubbio, ma ancora più odiosa è la giustificazione del genocidio della popolazione palestinese in nome dell’integrità di Israele, l’ultimo stato apertamente colonialista del ventunesimo secolo. Io sto con gli ebrei che in tutto il mondo gridano «no in nostro nome» e, come Ilan Pappe, Norman Finkelstein e tanti altri, sono convinto che mentre Israele esiste non ci sarà pace in Medio Oriente e nel mondo intero.
Dopo diciannove mesi di violenza e distruzione, dopo 55.000 morti palestinesi (molti di più secondo fonti indipendenti), in gran parte civili, donne e bambini, avete il coraggio di pubblicare il testo infame di due sionisti sudamericani, Nathan Novik e Edison Zoldan, che cinicamente difendono l’operato dell’esercito israeliano in Gaza e in Cisgiordania e, invece del dialogo, esigono la resa incondizionata di Hamas, il suo disarmo totale e liberazione degli ostaggi.
Ho aspettato molto a prendere questa decisione e ne sono spiacente, ma credo di aver raggiunto il limite: non posso più tollerare che il mio nome appaia accanto a fiancheggiatori dello Stato sionista. Vi chiedo quindi di pubblicare questa lettera e poi di eliminarmi dalla vostra pagina.

Claudio, ti ringrazio per la sincerità con cui prendi atto dell’impossibilità di restare nel Comitato di redazione internazionale di Utopia Rossa e più in generale nell’area rossoutopica.
Devo dirti che, dopo il nostro scambio di lettere successive al pogrom del 7 ottobre, mi chiedevo quanto avrei dovuto aspettare perché tu prendessi questa decisione.
Il 12 dicembre 2023, infatti, tu avevi scritto: «Se voi credete nella legittimità dello Stato di Israele, io ammetto di coincidere con le correnti del pensiero ebreo che la negano».
E quando il il 6 marzo 2024 ti scrissi: «Questa ondata di antisemitismo, che purtroppo sembra includere anche te, lascerà tracce profonde nella storia della sinistra reazionaria italiana», tu mi rispondesti: «Se mi vuoi esibire come parte della sinistra reazionaria che sostiene i palestinesi, non ho nessun problema, anzi ne sarei onorato».
Che tu restassi con noi, qiuindi, non aveva più senso. Ma da Utopia rossa si esce solo volontariamente. Quindi ti ringrazio per aver posto termine a una situazione insostenibile: insostenibile almeno per me, visto che non posso parlare a nome degli altri.

RENUNCIA A UTOPÍA ROJA

Carta abierta a la redacción de Utopía Roja
Queridos amigos:
Durante años colaboré con ustedes, la asociación Utopía Roja, porque comparto la idea de trabajar por la unidad de los movimientos revolucionarios del mundo en un proyecto internacionalista en el que puedan convivir personas de origen marxista y libertario. Sin embargo, las posturas increíblemente pro-sionistas y anti-palestinas que han asumido últimamente me obligan a presentar mi renuncia.
No creo que la acción de Hamas del 7 de octubre de 2023 haya sido un pogromo; pienso que fue un acto de guerra contra el estado sionista, lo cual es muy diferente. Soy ateo y no estoy de acuerdo con ningún fundamentalismo, pero pienso que los palestinos tienen derecho a resistir la violencia criminal de Israel. El terrorismo es un arma odiosa, sin duda, pero aún más odiosa es la justificación del genocidio de la población palestina en nombre de la integridad de Israel, el último estado abiertamente colonialista del siglo XXI. Yo estoy con los judíos que en todo el mundo gritan “no en nuestro nombre” y, como Ilan Pappe, Norman Finkelstein y tantos otros, estoy convencido de que mientras exista Israel no habrá paz en Medio Oriente ni en el mundo.
Después de diecinueve meses de violencia y destrucción, después de 55,000 palestinos muertos (muchos más según fuentes independientes), en su mayoría civiles, mujeres y niños, ustedes tienen el coraje de publicar el infame texto de dos sionistas sudamericanos, Nathan Novik y Edison Zoldan, que defienden cínicamente la actuación del ejército israelí en Gaza y Cisjordania y, en lugar del diálogo, exigen la rendición incondicional de Hamas, su desarme total y la liberación de los rehenes.
Esperé mucho para tomar esta decisión y lo lamento, pero creo que he llegado al límite: no puedo seguir tolerando que mi nombre aparezca junto al de defensores del estado sionista. Por eso les pido que publiquen esta carta y luego me eliminen de su página.

Claudio, te agradezco la sinceridad con la que reconoces la imposibilidad de seguir en el Comité de Redacción Internacional de Utopía Roja y, más en general, en el ámbito rojoutópico.
Debo decirte que, después de nuestro intercambio de cartas tras el pogromo del 7 de octubre, me preguntaba cuánto tendría que esperar para que tomaras esta decisión.
El 12 de diciembre de 2023, de hecho, escribiste: «Si ustedes creen en la legitimidad del Estado de Israel, yo admito coincidir con las corrientes del pensamiento judío que la niegan».
Y cuando el 6 de marzo de 2024 te escribí: «Esta oleada de antisemitismo, que lamentablemente parece incluir también a ti, dejará huellas profundas en la historia de la izquierda reaccionaria italiana», me respondiste: «Si quieres exhibirme como parte de la izquierda reaccionaria que apoya a los palestinos, no tengo ningún problema, al contrario, me sentiría honrado».
Que siguieras con nosotros, por lo tanto, ya no tenía sentido. Pero de Utopía Roja se sale solo voluntariamente. Por eso, te agradezco haber puesto fin a una situación insostenible —al menos para mí, ya que no puedo hablar en nombre de los demás.

RESIGNATION FROM RED UTOPIA

Open letter to the Editorial Board of Red Utopia
Dear friends,
For years I have collaborated with you, the Red Utopia association, because I share the idea of working toward the unity of the revolutionary movements of the world in an internationalist project where people from Marxist and libertarian backgrounds can coexist. However, the incredibly pro-Zionist and anti-Palestinian positions you have taken in recent times compel me to submit my resignation.
I do not believe that the action by Hamas on October 7, 2023, was a pogrom; I think it was an act of war against the Zionist state, which is something quite different. I am an atheist and do not support any form of fundamentalism, but I believe that the Palestinians have the right to resist the criminal violence of Israel. Terrorism is a hateful weapon, no doubt, but even more hateful is the justification of genocide against the Palestinian population in the name of Israel’s integrity — the last openly colonialist state of the twenty-first century. I stand with the Jews who around the world shout “not in our name,” and like Ilan Pappe, Norman Finkelstein, and many others, I am convinced that as long as Israel exists, there will be no peace in the Middle East or the world.
After nineteen months of violence and destruction, after 55,000 Palestinian deaths (many more, according to independent sources), mostly civilians, women, and children, you have the audacity to publish the infamous text by two South American Zionists, Nathan Novik and Edison Zoldan, who cynically defend the actions of the Israeli army in Gaza and the West Bank and, instead of dialogue, demand the unconditional surrender of Hamas, its complete disarmament, and the release of the hostages.
I waited a long time to make this decision, and I regret it, but I believe I have reached my limit: I can no longer tolerate having my name appear alongside supporters of the Zionist state. I therefore ask you to publish this letter and then remove me from your page.

Claudio, I thank you for the sincerity with which you acknowledge the impossibility of remaining in the International Editorial Committee of Red Utopia and, more generally, within the Redutopic sphere.
I must tell you that, after our exchange of letters following the pogrom of October 7, I was wondering how long I would have to wait before you woiuld have taken such a decision.
On December 12, 2023, in fact, you wrote: “If you believe in the legitimacy of the State of Israel, I admit to aligning with the currents of Jewish thought that deny it.”
And when on March 6, 2024, I wrote to you: “This wave of antisemitism, which unfortunately seems to include you as well, will leave deep marks in the history of the reactionary Italian left,” you replied: “If you want to parade me as part of the reactionary left that supports the Palestinians, I have no problem with that — on the contrary, I would be honored.”
So, your staying with us was no longer making sense. But from Red Utopia one can leave only voluntarily. Therefore, I thank you for putting an end to an unsustainable situation — at least for me, since I cannot speak on behalf of the others.
